At a glance: Cammino Minerario di Santa Barbara covers 500 km over 30 stages. It is a loop route of moderate difficulty in Sardinia. Best season: March–June · September–November. Accommodation: from €28 per night.

The Cammino Minerario di Santa Barbara is a 500 km circuit through south-west Sardinia, following old miners’ and charcoal burners’ paths between shafts, ruined processing plants, holm-oak forest and exposed Mediterranean cliffs.

The best-known coastal stretch links Nebida, Masua, Cala Domestica and Buggerru, passing Pan di Zucchero and Porto Flavia. Many international visitors choose this three- or four-day section rather than tackling all 30 stages in one trip.

Accommodation includes pilgrim posadas, hostels, B&Bs and agriturismi. The foundation behind the route coordinates a recognised network, and credential holders can access beds from around €28 a night.

Where to stay

The route foundation works with pilgrim posadas and local accommodation at each stage. Credential rates start at about €28, but rooms are limited away from the coast and need to be reserved.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to walk all 500 km at once?

Not at all. The trail is designed to work in sections. The coastal run from Iglesias towards Buggerru is the classic first taste and fits comfortably into three or four days.

When is the best time to go?

Spring and autumn — roughly March to June and September to November. Long exposed stages are punishing in midsummer, while winter brings shorter days and less predictable services.

What does accommodation cost?

Credential holders can use partner accommodation from around €28 a night. Private B&Bs and agriturismi cost more, especially in coastal locations.
