The opening stage is also the longest. From Tenaglie, the path quickly settles into the wooded rhythm of the Amerini Hills, climbing and dropping through oak and chestnut forest before the green basin around Melezzole comes into view.

Melezzole has a small mix of B&Bs, farm stays and donation-based pilgrim accommodation. Capacity is limited, particularly on spring weekends, so reserve a bed before you walk.
