Iglesias
Sulcis-Iglesiente · Sardegna sud-occidentale · Sardegna
A mining town twenty minutes from the cliffs of Nebida and Masua: the perfect base for walking the Santa Barbara Mining Trail in day sections.
Iglesias is the historic capital of the Sulcis-Iglesiente, with a compact medieval centre and the Marganai massif behind it. It is the natural base for exploring the Santa Barbara Mining Trail in day sections: the coastal stages at Nebida, Masua and Buggerru are half an hour away by car or bus.
The coast offers cliffs, the Pan di Zucchero sea stack and Porto Flavia; inland there are holm-oak woods, abandoned mines and the Su Mannau cave. Spring and autumn are the right seasons: in summer the heat makes long outings hard work after ten in the morning.
